You’ve talked about what happened—maybe for years—but your body still hasn’t gotten the message that it’s over. You’re tense, reactive, and feel stuck reliving what you’ve been through.
At Resilience Counseling & Wellness, our trauma-informed therapists in Houston use brainspotting to help you process pain at the level where it’s actually stored so you can find deep, lasting healing.
When talking about it isn’t enough, brainspotting goes deeper.
Brainspotting uses your field of vision to access the deeper, subcortical parts of the brain where trauma and emotional pain are stored—places traditional talk therapy often can’t reach. If any of these sound familiar, brainspotting may be the missing piece:
- “I understand my trauma, so why do I still feel this way?”
- “My reactions feel way out of proportion, and I can’t control them.”
- “I freeze up or shut down and don’t know why.”
- “I’ve done years of therapy, but the same issues keep coming back.”
- “My doctor can’t find anything wrong, but my body is always tense, exhausted, or in pain.”
You’re not broken, and you’re not doing therapy wrong. Some wounds simply need a body-based approach. That’s exactly what we offer.
Meet our Houston brainspotting therapist

Jennifer Castro
As a trauma therapist, I’ve learned that the deepest healing happens when we work with the brain and body together—not just the story.
I trained in brainspotting because I watched clients with complex trauma, anxiety, OCD, and disordered eating find relief there that talk therapy alone couldn’t offer.
My background at The Menninger Clinic, the Eating Recovery Center, and McLean OCD Institute means I bring serious clinical depth to this gentle, powerful work—and I’d be honored to walk beside you.
- Credentials: Licensed Master Social Worker #109274
- Specialty Areas: Complex trauma, childhood trauma and abuse, anxiety, depression, OCD, disordered eating, grief and loss, family dynamics
- Availability: Online and in-person in Houston, TX
What to expect from the therapy process
1. Start with a free consultation call
Reach out to schedule a free call with our practice manager, who will listen to what’s bringing you in and answer your questions. From there, we’ll set you up with your therapist and get your first session on the calendar.
2. Build safety and find your brainspot
Your first sessions focus on getting to know you, your history, and your goals, and helping your nervous system feel settled in the work. When you’re ready, your therapist will guide your gaze to the eye position—your “brainspot”—connected to the issue you want to process.
3. Process, release, and integrate
While you focus on the brainspot, your brain does what it’s naturally wired to do: process and release what’s been stuck. Over time, you’ll notice old triggers losing their charge and more calm, clarity, and connection taking their place.

What sets our practice apart from other brainspotting therapy providers in Houston
- We specialize in trauma and the nervous system. Brainspotting isn’t a side offering here. Body-based trauma work is the heart of our practice, alongside EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, and NARM.
- Clinicians who never stop training. Ongoing learning is one of our core values, so you’re working with therapists on the cutting edge of trauma treatment.
- A space designed to calm your nervous system. Our office was intentionally created to feel soothing, supportive, and safe from the moment you walk in.
- Wellness services that deepen your therapy. Options like Safe and Sound Protocol, vibroacoustic therapy, and breathwork can support your nervous system between sessions.
- A warm human on the other end of the phone. Our practice manager brings over a decade of experience and is often the first caring voice you’ll connect with.
How does brainspotting work?

- The therapist will ask the client to identify a traumatic memory or other emotional issue that they would like to work on.
- The therapist will then help the client to identify the brainspot associated with the memory or issue. This is done by asking the client to focus on different points in their visual field and to notice how they feel.
- Once the brainspot has been identified, the therapist will use eye movements, taps, or tones to stimulate the brainspot.
- The client will then be asked to focus on the memory or issue and to allow any thoughts, feelings, or sensations to come up.
- The therapist will help the client to process the memory or issue by providing support and guidance.
Brainspotting is similar to eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) in that both therapies use eye movements to help people access and process traumatic memories. However, Brainspotting also uses tones and taps, which can make it more effective for some people.
Why should I choose brainspotting?
- Non-Invasive: Brainspotting is a non-invasive therapeutic approach that doesn’t require medication or lengthy verbal discussions. It allows for a gentle and natural process of healing, empowering individuals to access their own innate resources for growth and recovery.
- Targeted Treatment: Brainspotting focuses on targeting the specific areas of the brain and body where trauma is stored, facilitating direct access and processing of these traumatic experiences. This targeted approach often leads to faster and more effective results compared to traditional therapies.
- Holistic Healing: Brainspotting recognizes the interconnectedness of the mind, body, and emotions. By addressing trauma on all these levels, it promotes holistic healing and a more comprehensive recovery experience.
- Personalized Approach: Each Brainspotting session is tailored to the individual’s unique needs and experiences. The therapist collaborates closely with the client to identify the most relevant brainspots and guide the healing process accordingly.
- Long-lasting Results: Brainspotting aims to facilitate lasting change and empowerment. By resolving trauma and releasing emotional distress, individuals can experience profound shifts in their lives that extend far beyond the therapy session.
