EMDR and Somatic Intensives are designed for clients who want to move through trauma work in a concentrated and supportive format. Instead of the stop-and-start rhythm of weekly therapy, intensives provide extended time for grounding, reprocessing, and integration. This allows your nervous system to stay engaged in the work long enough to create meaningful shifts.

These sessions blend EMDR with somatic practices that help the body release stored tension and trauma responses. The extended structure creates space for deeper work, more stability, and a clearer sense of resolution.

At Resilience Counseling & Wellness, we offer EMDR and somatic therapy intensives in Houston in a range of different formats. Whether you need space to process complex trauma or want to work through one specific experience, we’re here to help.

About Resilience Counseling & Wellness

Person with outstretched arms in the sunlight breaking free from religious trauma

At our Houston practice, we specialize in concentrated trauma treatment that combines EMDR with Somatic Experiencing—because trauma is held in the body, not only in memory. Our intensives are available in person at our office, designed for clients who want more than the stop-and-start rhythm of weekly therapy.

The foundation of our work is relationship. Before your intensive day, you’ll have a dedicated 90-minute intake and preparation session so we understand your history, identify targets together, and build the grounding skills you’ll draw on during processing. By the time your intensive begins, you’re fully prepared.

We’ve built this practice around a belief that well-trained clinicians and a genuinely soothing environment change what’s possible in the room. Our therapists are continually training in new modalities, and we’ve been deliberate about creating a space where both clients and clinicians feel calm, supported, and held.

Many trauma survivors find themselves cycling through the same distressing memories and physical responses that insight alone can’t resolve. Intensive EMDR and somatic work offers a different route: sustained nervous system engagement, uninterrupted processing, and a clear beginning, middle, and end to the work.

Meet your intensive clinician

Ashlie Brown, MEd, LPC, CH, SEP

Hi, I’m Ashlie, a Licensed Professional Counselor and co-founder of Resilience Counseling & Wellness. I completed my undergraduate work at Southwestern University and my Master’s in Counseling at the University of Houston, then spent the early part of my career at a suicide hotline, in the Harris County Jail system, in community mental health, and in psychiatric hospitals—settings where I kept meeting clients with complex trauma histories that traditional CBT and talk therapy couldn’t reach.

That gap sent me looking for better tools. I’m a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), an EMDR-certified clinician, a NARM practitioner, and a Certified Hypnotherapist, and I’m trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). Honestly, these have been game changers in the work I do. My practice is also deeply informed by Pia Mellody and Diane Poole Heller, because I’ve found that our family of origin and earliest attachment figures shape how we relate to ourselves and everyone else.

People tell me I’m different from therapists they’ve worked with before. I give real feedback rather than just listening or handing out advice, I use humor to loosen up patterns that have gotten stuck, and I teach clients how to move forward instead of dwelling on the past. If it sounds like we could be a good fit, I encourage you to reach out to explore how we can work together.

  • Process anything that surfaced afterward
  • Reinforce insights and shifts
  • Strengthen regulation skills
  • Identify next steps for ongoing care

Also available: 3-Hour ART Intensive — $750

ART is a highly structured, efficient approach designed for clients working with a single incident trauma or a clearly defined event. Many clients experience meaningful relief in a shorter format. ART uses rapid eye movements and guided visualization to help the brain resolve distressing images and sensations while maintaining a sense of safety and control.

This standalone session is ideal for:

  • Single incident trauma
  • Specific phobias
  • Intrusive images
  • Performance-related blocks
  • Clients who want a shorter, focused intervention

This standalone session does not include the intake session or integration session that come with the EMDR and somatic intensive program.

How to start intensive treatment

  • 1

Schedule your consultation: Reach out to express interest and schedule a 20-minute call with Ashlie. This is your chance to ask questions, describe what you’re hoping to work on, and get a feel for the process before committing. The call is $100, and if during the call Ashlie determines an intensive isn’t the right fit, we will refund the $100. If the client decides not to move forward, we do not refund.

  • 2

Attend your intake and preparation session: Next, we’ll schedule your 90-minute intake. Together we’ll map your history and goals, identify targets, and build the regulation skills that will carry you through your intensive day. A $425 payment reserves this appointment and secures your place in the program.

  • 3

Experience real transformation: Now the work begins. Through intensive EMDR and somatic therapy, many clients experience in one or two days what would typically take eight to twenty or more weekly sessions.

Why choose Resilience Counseling & Wellness for intensive therapy

ifs exercises

Advanced clinical training

Learning is central to how we practice. Our clinicians are continually training and refining their practice so we can stay at the cutting edge of what actually creates lasting change rather than temporary relief.

Body-based healing philosophy

Trauma lives below language. Our work integrates the nervous system into every stage of treatment, which means processing doesn’t stop at insight—it reaches the physical patterns that keep symptoms in place.

Wellness services that support the work

Beyond therapy, our practice offers NeurOptimal neurofeedback, the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP), Vibroacoustic Therapy (VAT), and SomatIQ Breathwork. These can be layered alongside intensive work to support regulation and deepen integration.

Boutique care experience

Your healing deserves a setting built for it. We offer high-touch, fully tailored intensive sessions, and we’ve spent significant time refining our space so clients and clinicians alike feel calm, supported, and held.

Common reasons people seek intensive programs

Limited time for ongoing sessions

Committing to open-ended weekly therapy is difficult with a demanding schedule. Intensives concentrate the work into a defined window, which is why they resonate with busy professionals, business owners, physicians, attorneys, and parents.

A history of complex and developmental trauma

Layered experiences—especially those rooted in childhood and early attachment—benefit from immersive processing. This format allows interconnected memories to be worked through in a structured, well-supported way rather than one fragment at a time.

Feeling stuck in traditional therapy

Some clients plateau in talk therapy, particularly around trauma. If you can explain exactly where your patterns come from and they still haven’t shifted, intensives can break through that ceiling using a different mechanism entirely.

Geographic distance

For clients traveling into Houston for specialized trauma care, intensives minimize travel while maximizing therapeutic benefit. Intensives offer a dedicated healing retreat rather than a recurring commute.

Desire for rapid progress before a life event

Weddings, pregnancy, IVF, birth, surgery, returning to work, or a major career transition can all create a sense of urgency. Intensives accelerate the process when timing is of the essence.

Need for a focused healing environment

Stepping fully away from daily demands allows for deeper work. Intensives create dedicated space for healing, free from the interruptions that slow progress in weekly sessions.

FAQs about somatic & EMDR intensives

Trauma is held not only in memory but in the body. Weekly therapy can be helpful, but the limited time often means you are just beginning to access deeper layers when the session ends.

Intensives offer:

  • Sustained nervous system engagement
  • Deeper processing without interruption
  • A clear beginning, middle, and end to the work
  • Faster movement through sticking points
  • A sense of completion that may take months in weekly therapy

Many clients find that the progress made in one intensive would typically require numerous weekly sessions. This can reduce the overall time and cost of treatment while offering relief sooner.

Yes! While the upfront cost is higher than a single weekly session, intensives often reduce the overall cost of treatment because:

  • Significant progress can be made in one or two days
  • You avoid months of weekly sessions to reach the same depth
  • You reduce the emotional and financial cost of prolonged treatment

For many clients, one intensive session can replace eight to twenty or more weekly sessions depending on the goals and trauma being addressed.

Payment Schedule

  • $100 consultation fee is paid upfront
  • $425 intake fee is collected when your 90-minute intake session is scheduled
  • The remaining balance (the intensive portion) is collected when you book your first intensive day

Cancellations with Less Than 48 Hours’ Notice

If you cancel your scheduled intensive day with less than 48 hours’ notice, 50% of the intensive portion of your program fee is refundable. The $100 consultation fee and the $425 intake fee are not refundable. The remaining 50% of the intensive fee will be refunded to your original payment method.

No‑Shows

If you miss your scheduled intensive day without providing notice, the full program fee is non‑refundable.

These policies ensure that the time reserved for your intensive, which cannot be filled on short notice, is honored and compensated.
